Summer is just around the corner. What is Functional Strength? I think that this a term that is often used loosely. Functional Strength exercises train your muscles to work together and prepare them for daily tasks by simulating common movements you might do at home, at work or in a sport. Improving balance, posture, strength, muscular endurance, flexibility and mobility are priorities in my classes. Functional Strength makes you stronger, helps you move safer and better at being a human being.
Why Strength Train? As we age our muscle mass diminishes, and if we don't do anything to replace the lean muscle we loose, our body fat increases. Strength training has many benefits. Aside from enhancing your body composition and getting you beach ready, strength training helps preserve and enhance your muscle mass, regardless of your age. It increases your metabolism and the calories you burn at rest, improves stability, puts stress on your bones- helping to increase bone density, and reduces your risk from chronic disease....just to name a few benefits. Strength along with mobility, balance, endurance, and cardio vascular health are the components of good physical health and should be a priority.
